Monday- I went for a swim at Lancaster University. It was very relaxing after the 16 mile run yesterday.

Tuesday- 7 mile run down to the Quay and up to Williamson park.

Wednesday- 4 mile run to Williamson park and home.

Thursday- My little sister Lily joined me on her bicycle for a 5 mile run down the canal and to the Quay and through Haverbreaks. It was lovely to have her to talk to and explore the countryside of Lancaster together and I still beat her on the hills!

Friday- Day off- Day trip to Liverpool with my family.

Saturday- Day off- Got an early train back to Edinburgh

Sunday- 17 mile run from Craiglockhart sport centre to the Pentlands and back.

30/03/15- 06/04/15

Monday- 1.00pm- Today was my first day back running after nearly a week off after my fall. I ran a total of 6.5 miles from Stockbridge down the Water of Leith and back. I really like this route as it has lots of different terrains and it is lovely to run along the water. It doesn't seem to take very long too,  a good run to ease back into my running routine.

Tuesday- 9.00 am- I went for a 60 length swim at Glenogle swim centre in Stockbridge.

Wednesday- 1.00pm Afternoon run to Leith and back. I had an essay due in the morning and a deadline the next day so thought I would skip evening women's running club and get some energy for my busy day.

Thursday- Day off. I walked to Leith from Edinburgh College of Art and down to Canon Mills so I think I walked about 4 miles.

Friday- 7 mile run to Leith down the Water of Leith and back to Stockbidge. I've done this run a lot this week but I enjoy the route so it doesn't seem monotonous! Travelled to Lancaster to visit my mum for the week so am planning some scenic Lancaster runs.

Saturday-  Day off- We went to Ambleside for the day- everyone else had the same idea as it was a lovely, sunny Easter weekend so the town was very busy. I had a lovely Egyptian fava bean stew at the Rattle Gill Cafe-perfect fuel for tomorrow's 16 mile run!

Sunday- Graeme and I had ran  to the Crook O' Lune, down the Quay and then back to Lancaster totalling 16 miles. The Crook o' Lune is a magical place to visit, a walker's and cyclists's destination. One of my favourite parts in the bridge with willow lettering it feels like running into a new world, full of towering trees, lakes and wooden animals.

Running Diary 23/03/15- 29/03/15

Monday- Today I went for swim after the long 15 mile run. I did 60 lengths.

Tuesday- Today I set out to run 7 miles but unfortunatly had a fall on the first mile. I badly hit my knee, shoulder and bruised my chin and lip. I booked a doctor's appointment the same day and after a check-up I was advised to take a week off running. Thankfully nothing serious but my leg was very swollen and difficult to walk on.

Wednesday- Day off. I found it very difficult to walk today but felt better than yesterday!

Thursday- I went for a 60 length swim, it was quite painful to move my knee and shoulder but the pain eased after a few lengths. I went to the sauna to relax my muscles after.

Friday- I went for another 60 length swim.

Saturday- 60 length swim

Sunday- 60 length swim

I'm looking forward to getting back to running next week but it has been good to have more of a relaxing week of exercise. An experienced runner friend from Edinburgh Athletics advised me that this is a good time to take a break before a Marathon.

Running Diary 16/03/15- 22/03/15

Monday- 60 length swim I went for a swim today which eased my muscles after the 14 mile run yesterday.

Tuesday- 7 mile run down the Water of Leith from Stockbridge to Leith and back with two steep hill runs.

Wednesday- Women's running club- Pyramid session- This involves running for approxiamently 100 metres then walking back to the start then 200 metres then walk back  then 400 metres and repeating 3 times.

Thursday- I went to Morning Yoga at Union Yoga. My muscles felt really tight so it was good to stretch. I felt my knee twinging later on which may have been from the sprints last night or over stretching.

Friday-7 mile run to Leith and back to Stockbridge.

Saturday- Day off. I was going to go to Parkrun but my knee ached so I thought it was best to take a day off.

Sunday- 15 mile run with EAC starting at Craiglockhart sports centre. Today's route took us to the Pentland Hills which I had not yet visited. It was lovely to see the resevoir and hills and run through woods and different terrains, especially muddy, woody paths. This run felt a lot easier compared to last week as I was running with a group.

Friday- 7 mile run from Stockbridge to  Leith and back with two steep hills.

I didn't find time for Yoga this week, but I aim to go next week! I'm finding the Sunday runs a bit easier when having a day off on Saturday but all the good running events are on at the weekend such as Park run and EAC session at the Meadows.

Running Diary 02/03/15- 08/03/15

I've gradually built up on my miles from this week, I also joined the Edinburgh University Yoga society and attened the Power Vinyasa Yoga class. It probably wasn't the best idea to go to a highly energetic Yoga class before going to running club in the evening as I was quite worn out during the running session. I really felt my shoulder joints ache from the many sun salutations and back bends! I'd like to go to the class again or a similar Yoga as I enjoyed the fast pace and strengthening strecthes.
Monday - Day off

Tuesday- 6.5 mile run down the Water of Leith from Stockbridge to Leith and back.

Wednesday- Yoga Vinyasa Power at St Giles Church- 1.30- 2.45 pm. 6.00 pm- EAC Womens' running club - 10 fast runs for 2-3 minutes with 90 second break.

Thursday- 7.30 AM 60 length swim

Friday- 10.00 AM 6.5 mile run to Leith

Saturday- Day Off

Sunday- 9.00 AM 13.4 mile run with EAC running club- My knees felt very sore in the last 2 miles and I ran most of the run on my own so the run seemed much longer than when I've run with others.  This is the furthest I've ever run so a good accomplishment for the day and building up to the marathon.

Running Diary 23/02/15- 01/03/15

On the train back to Edinburgh from Lancaster I read OM Yoga magazine and it reminded me of how much I enjoy Yoga and its meditative and strengthening benefits. It is also really important as a runner to have good flexibility and increase strength through deep stretches to reduce possible injuries. I've decided to go to a Yoga class at least once a week, not only am I looking forward to the relaxing and strengthening aspects but also trying out a different exercise as I feel running can sometimes be very exhausting physically and psychologically.

Monday-  Day off running- I went to a Vinyasa yoga class at Meadowlark Yoga in Edinburgh. The class very very energetic and had good practise moves for head stands- which I still cannot do. I enjoyed the deep stretches and the flowing sequences of the class and it was good to focus on my breathing and stretch my muscles after the long run yesterday. 5 mile walk

Tuesday- 10.00 AM 6.25 mile run- steady run down The Water of Leith to Roseburn and round  to Inverleith park once with a steep hill to end.

Wednesday- Day off. 4 mile walk

Thursday-  10.00 AM 6.75 mile run  down the Water of Leith to the port of Leith and back to Stockbridge. Hill at the end.

Friday- 7.30 AM Day off running- 60 length swim.

Saturday- 9.30 AM Park run- 5km race- This was the first park run I attended at Crammond beach that wasn't icy! I acheived a personal best for this race of 24 minutes, 23 seconds.

Sunday- 9.00 AM 12 miles Craiglockart to Balerno long run with Edinburgh Athletics Club- This run was quite hilly and my legs felt a bit sore from the Park run. I enjoyed the run and running with other people kept me going for the 12 miles.
